For a sustainable livestock in Alta Floresta microregion

The International Institute for Sustainability (IIS) presented on March 11th the main results of their work focused on the sustainable development of the microregion of Alta Floresta, in the northern state of Mato Grosso.

The event “Grants and tools for a more productive and sustainable livestock in the microregion of Alta Floresta”, held in the city of Alta Floresta, was attended by 50 participants, including producers, rural unions members, designers, rural extension technicians of public and private companies and Environment, Agriculture and Planning secretaries of the six municipalities involved in the micro-region.

The presentation made by IIS director, Bernardo Strassburg, was divided into two parts. The first one showed the effects of intensification in the use of technical assistance, reproductive handling techniques, the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and the economic and environmental performance of farms with different sizes and pasture conditions.

The second part focused on future scenarios, considering both the perception of local stakeholders and the projections of demands for meat and grains by 2030.

The next IIS steps and actions in the microregion were also mentioned, including the generation of new products and improvements of the existing ones, through a constant process of consulting, revalidation and participatory construction.

The studies resulted into two products, which will be available to the public very soon.
