IIS participates in the XIX Katoomba Meeting, in Foz do Iguacu

The International Institute for Sustainability participated in the “Katoomba Meeting” event, held March 19th and 20th in Foz do Iguaçu (PR). This is the second time the meeting is held in Brazil, and this year introduced the theme “Developing Sustainable Supply Chains Commodities”, with the participation of national and international researchers, livestock and soybean related companies, policymakers, financial institutions and civil society organizations in panels and debates.

Organized by Forest Trends and the Katoomba Group, the event aimed to identify challenges and solutions for change in the commodities production, to benefit sustainability and reduce deforestation. Among the main topics for discussion are listed the position and perspective of buyers, market incentives, the financing of sustainable supply chains and alignment of public-private initiatives.

The Project Coordinator of IIS, Larissa Stoner, represented the institution. “Meetings like this are a great opportunity to share knowledge on issues related to the supply chain. It is important to have a space like this to discuss openly the need to produce commodities considering the already established populations and the maintenance of ecosystems”, she affirmed.
